Brent Refsland is an artist living in southern Maine. For more than a decade he has solely incorporated discarded and used sandpaper he’s collected from fellow artists, woodworkers, and friends into landscapes, weavings, and abstract works on wood panel and paper. His approach is largely intuitive, melding observation with memory, imagination, and emotion.
Refsland earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in photography from the Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts at Arizona State University in 2005. His work is included in private and corporate collections around the world.
He co-founded Room 68 Art & Design in Boston in 2011. A few years later he opened a second location on Cape Cod in the heart of Provincetown. Room 68 highlighted emerging artists and designers from the New England area and beyond for over 13 years. In addition to his role as art director at Room 68, Refsland has been involved with other galleries and pop-ups in the Boston area over the years.
