My name is Mugi Takei. I was born in New York and raised in Japan. I currently live in Oakland, California with my family. I make drawings, paintings, prints, and stop-motion animation.
My work was mostly about longing for connection for a long time. Therefore becoming a mother was a huge shift for me. I'm rediscovering little things everyday with my children. We explore forests and beaches and enjoy different kinds of sensations and closely look at our findings. Without preconceptions, my children seem to be experiencing life as overwhelmingly vivid and beautiful. Their little bodies are so lively and their souls are always curious. I sometimes ride on their wavelength and feel fragments of it. I make my newer works as a kind of record of our life, however I don't intend to keep it for myself. I hope to share my vision with others and for others to feel enlivened.
