Tasmanian born, Brisbane based artist Shane Drinkwater has exhibited widely within Australia and Internationally. Shane studied for 3 years at the University of Tasmania, School of Art in Hobart and one year at the National Art School in Sydney.  To create abstract landscapes, topographical or astronomical maps, and coded networks Shane Drinkwater employs his own language of lines, dashes, and dots. His pieces resemble maze-like systems with each symbol flooded with personal meaning. The ambiguity of each mark and the composition allow viewers to project their own perceptions as they try to inspect, unlock, and decode his language. Drinkwater creates textures through repetition, often times reading as fabric or quilted material.
